About BI Blog

Welcome to the Beck Institute Blog … This blog is written by the staff of the Beck Institute for Cognitive Therapy and Research. People call us all the time looking for information about Cognitive Therapy, or CT, with specific questions about what it can treat. So we thought we’d set up this blog as a resource for everyone — for professionals, students and the general public. We’ll talk about what’s happening globally with CT research studies and training programs, everything from new books to CT in the news. We’d also like this blog to answer your questions about what CT is and how it works, and to provide a place where people who’ve experienced the benefit of CT can share their stories.

Lastly, we’d like to let you know what’s happening here at the Beck Institute throughout the year. From time to time, Aaron T. Beck, M.D., and Judith S. Beck, Ph.D., will be contributing directly with their own insights and comments. Aaron T. Beck, M.D. is President of the Beck Institute, and University Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania. He developed Cognitive Therapy in the early 1960s. Judith S. Beck, Ph.D. is Director of the Beck Institute, and Clinical Associate Professor of Psychology in Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania.

We hope that you will find this site useful — and if you have thoughts about how we can improve the blog, or if there are CT-related topics you’d like to see covered here, please let us know (you can write to us at info@cttoday.org). Although we may not be able to incorporate every suggestion, we do hope to make this blog a useful source of CT information, and your feedback will help us to know how we’re doing.

Also, if you have benefited from receiving Cognitive Therapy treatment and would like to tell others about your experience by having your treatment story posted on this website, please write to us at info@cttoday.org, with the subject line “Treatment Story.”

Others may benefit from hearing about what you have experienced, and how CT treatment has helped. We’re looking for treatment stories of any length – short or long. We will contact you within two to four weeks to let you know if we’d like to post your story, and to verify how you would like your name or initials to appear. We hope you’ll consider sending your story to the BI blog .

If you are a mental health professional interested in receiving Cognitive Therapy training at the Beck Institute, please visit our website (workshops and long distance programs are available).

DISCLAIMER: We regret that we cannot provide therapeutic advice of any kind on this blog, nor respond to emails with specific therapeutic questions. If you or someone you know is in need of treatment, please visit the Academy of Cognitive Therapy website, where you can search for a certified cognitive therapist.
